The museum has been founded on Mitina Tamara Victorovna initiative in 2009, who was the head of district children's library. Under agreement with Mitina Tamara, the author of "Amethyst bereg" book, the director of "Northern minerals" firm, Frishman Nicolay - the employee of the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow geological Institute and St. Petersburg state University a small collection, dedicated a unique amethyst deposit «Amethysts of Korabl (Ship) Cape», has been represented in the library reading room in 2010. The presentation of Museum was organized in November 2010. In the spring of 2011 Brazilian Geode amethyst, weighing 155 kg, has been bought, which became the basis of the Museum collection. In summer period all repair and finishing works have been completed.

- “Russian and world’s Amethyst deposits";
-"Articles of amethyst and other Tersky minerals and rocks".
At the same time the library held "Tersky Amethyst" contest among Murmansk region school students.
The Museum open to all interested and holds thematic excursions.
In November 2011 the first results was summed up and in may 2012 the thematic conference has been planned. .
26-27 of May, 2012 the interregional conference " Tersky Amethyst. The historical aspects and the possibility of creating a tourist geological and other attractions cluster in the Tersky district" has been hold.
«Minerals and rocks of the Murmansk region – objects of tourist infrastructure» exposition has been represented on conference also.
Many groups and visitors visit the Museum.
By autumn, the Museum collection was enriched by quartz, amethyst, glendonite collections. Glendonite or "Belomorskaya rogulka" is a mysterious mineral formation of unusual shape, resembling a multi-beam star.
