The Museum was founded in 1991. In 1992 it became the territorial division of Murmansk regional Museum of local lore. The Museum attracts an abundance of old Pomors authentic items, expressive monuments of the Pomors culture, the spirit and warmth of the Pomors houses. It is a place of enlightenment and education of love and devotion to the native land for the Tersky district population. The Museum is popular with local residents and visitors.
Total area of the Museum is 297,9 square meters, the exhibition is 262 square meters. Main sections of the exhibition:
- Tersky ancient time
- Russian settlements on Tersky coast
- Tersky Pomors field in XVIII - early XX centuries. Fisheries. Hunting. Shipbuilding. Pearl fishing.
- The development of crafts in XVIII – early XX centuries. Timbering and joinery. The art of wood processing. Shoemaking. Women's crafts, needlework.
- The Pomors’ life in the end of XIX - beginning of XX centuries.
The exhibition presents 733 subject of the main fund, 161 of scientific support. The most interesting exhibits are:
- home furnishings "Fishing Izba-Tonya" and "Chamber"
- Kalgi skis
- women's headdresses (povoinik, kokoshnik)
- household Pomors’ items (wooden millstone, shoulder yoke)
- toys-grandmother, sherkunki (rattles), Pani-
doll,
- original folk art articles (woven tablecloths, lace and embroidery, Russian shirts, braided belts; birch bark and trees’ roots articles; painted chests, shingle birds, carved and painted spinning wheels).
